July sales: Domestic biz lifts Maruti 13%; Royal Enfield up 31%

Maruti Suzuki , the country's largest car maker, sold 1.37 lakh vehicles in July, higher by 12.7 percent compared with 1.21 lakh vehicles sold in year-ago period. The growth was entirely led by domestic business. The company said domestic sales were highest ever in a month, growing 13.9 percent to 1.25 lakh units, supported by Ciaz, Baleno, Eeco and Vitara Brezza. The big positive was its exports that turned higher for the month, up 0.3 percent at 11,338 units after reporting a fall in preceding months. Passenger cars sales increased 2.2 percent at 93,634 units with compact segment growing 4.1 percent and mid-size (Ciaz) showing a solid 145.9 percent growth while mini (Alto & WagonR) and super compact (Dzire Tour) cars sales declined 7.2 percent and 9.2 percent, respectively. Utility vehicles sales growth was spectacular at 151.3 percent led by Vitara Brezza that launched in March 2016. Vans sales increased a whopping 24.1 percent in the month gone by, largely on Eeco support. Maruti also entered into light commercial vehicles business by selling 14 units during the month. At 10:52 hours IST, shares were trading at Rs 4,855, up 2.10 percent after hitting a record high of Rs 4,871. 





Royal Enfield sustains momentum Eicher Motors continued improvement in Royal Enfield sales for the fourth consecutive month in July. It sold 53,378 units during the month, higher by 31 percent compared with 40,760 units in same period last year. Exports grew by 40 percent to 1,250 units on yearly basis, especially after the company expanded its presence in more markets. At 11:11 hours IST, the stock was trading at Rs 22,604.30, up 0.62 percent after hitting an all-time high of Rs 22,945.
